Terena 2012: Networking to Services

This year's international TERENA conference, will be host by the City of Reykjavik (21-24.05.2012). During the five-day event, participants will present the latest achievements of the research projects. Representatives of  Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center will have their presentations during the conference sessions.

TERENA Networking Conference (TNC) is the largest and most prestigious conference of scientific and academic networks in Europe. Each edition brings together more than 500 participants, professionals and managers of the major networks in Europe, as well as research organizations, universities and industry representatives. Through lectures of experts, discussions and sessions, TERENA participants shall review the latest developments in the field of research networks, both in the technical field and in the application and network management. The conference is an opportunity to meet all those who work during the year on joint research projects. It is also the time of plans and summaries, to confront the results and present scientific achievements within the national network.

This year’ s  TNC host is Icelandic Research and Education Network (RHnet) that provides connectivity to all Icelandic universities, higher education institutions and research institutes. It participates in a number of pioneering international projects, working in the educational network for the development in Iceland.

The theme of this year's conference is "Networking to Services". Among the speakers of this year's conference there are four representatives of PSNC.

Gerard Frankowski: "Addressing Complex Security Requirements for Network Services in GÉANT Multi-Domain Environments". The presentation is dedicated to the protection of network services in GÉANT multi-domain environments. He will describes the various security activities, dedicated to programmers, administrators and incident handling teams - consisting of multi-layered security mechanisms, consistent with an in-depth security strategy (called Defense-in-depth).

Radoslaw Krzywania: "Network Services Interface gateway for future network services". The presentation introduces students to issues associated with creating Network Services Interface (NSI) standard, developed in the framework of the Open Grid Forum (OGF). The aim of NSIis to define uniform  protocols and interfaces for resource reservation between network domains in order to provide global services. The presentation shows briefly the history of work on  NSI, the state of development at present and plans for the future.

Milosz Przywecki: "Federated POP: a successful real-world collaboration". The lecture focuses on the problems, challenges and principles of creating a common network node by several scientific networks (NRENs). It will be based on experience with the launch of such a node in Hamburg by PSNC, SURFnet and NORDUnet.

Piotr Ostapowicz: "4K Grabber, Innovative methods of data acquisition from the Embedded Systems which is part of session High resolution visualization". The presentation relates to innovative methods of acquisition of video data, based on equipment developed by our department. The project was developed in the form of an application for one of the parallel Internets. Due to the constant flux density of the transmitted data it  is a good generator for the network to guarantee a constant output (PI-DSS). The presentation will show the results of the work, and further plans for the development concept.
